Considering a Career as a Doula?

Pursuing a career as a doula is both meaningful and rewarding. If you've started exploring your options, you may have noticed that there are different types of perinatal doulas and a wide range of training organizations.

In Canada, the doula profession is not regulated, which means training programs can vary significantly in quality and scope. Some schools, however, have established strong reputations and higher standards. At DNB, we have drawn from these benchmarks to develop our own Standards of Practice, ensuring consistency and quality in doula care.

When choosing a training path, it's important to consider your long-term goals. Are you looking for a short, introductory course that covers the basics of family support? Or are you aiming for a more comprehensive program, such as Perinatal Naturopathy, which may also allow you to provide insurance receipts to clients?

The right path depends on the time, resources, and commitment you're ready to invest in your future as a doula. Explore DNB Standards of Practice.

Regardless of which school you choose, the DNB Required Doula Knowledge document will help you select the right doula training organization to become a DNB member.

Here are a few schools you might want to explore:

Once you have registered to a school and your training is underway, you may join DNB and benefit from being part of a local doula organization.
